NATIONS DAY CEREMONY
22 OCTOBER 2006
GENERAL
1.
On the 22
th October, The Ottawa Chapter of the Canadian Association of Veterans in
United Nations Peacekeeping (CAVUNP), The Canadian Armed Forces, The Royal
Canadian Mounted Police. The Korean Veterans Association (KVA), the Airborne
Regiment Association of Canada (ARAC), and other Veteran’s groups will honour
serving Peacekeepers and the memory of those who have fallen in the Service of
Peace. This ceremony coincides with United Nations day (24 Oct) and has been
traditionally observed at the National Peacekeeping Monument “Reconciliation”
since its dedication in 1992.
2. The ceremony will formally commence at the National
Peacekeeping Monument on Sussex Drive at 1400 hrs, with detailed timings shown
below. In addition to the traditional observances, the following activities
will take place:
a. The
Canadian Peacekeeping Service Medal (CPSM) will be awarded to veteran(s) from
the Ottawa Area.
REVIEWING
OFFICER
3. The
Reviewing Officer will be the Chief of Defence Staff, General Rick Hillier,
CMM, MSC, CD escorted by Mr. Barry Helman, CD
MEMORIAL
CROSS MOTHER
4. The
Memorial Cross Mother will be Mrs Claire Leger who lost her son
Sgt Marc Leger on 18 April 2002 in Kandahar, Afghanistan and escorted by Colonel Pat Stogran, MSC, CD
SEQUENCE OF
EVENTS
5. The
following activities will take place as close as possible to times indicated:

13.40 hrs: |
Mr. Real Fraser,
CPSM recipient is to report to Capt Carl Gauthier, CD, at the East end of the
of the Monument on Sussex Drive for a short briefing on the sequence of
events. He will sign for his medal and receive a presentation hook to be
returned afterwards. |

13:45 hrs: |
Under the direction of the Parade Marshall, Mr Joe Drouin MMM CSTJ CD and OIC
Flag Parties, Mr Bill Berry CD from KVA, all Veterans parading will
assemble in front of the Monument at the top of the stairs. |

The dress will be as follow: : Suit, Blazer with medal(s), UN beret with
CAVUNP hat badge, and
CF Uniform with medals and/ or Associations dress with full accoutrements.

Military personnel in uniform, Association members wearing headdress and
spectators not on parade will stand and/or salute during the following

11.
Underground parking is recommended at the National Gallery immediately NORTH of
the Monument on Sussex drive.
12. In
case of inclement weather requiring overcoats, medals will be worn on the
outside of the garment.
COORDINATION
13.
Parade Marshall will brief the participants during assembly/ form up from 13.45
hrs 22 Oct.
14. All
Peacekeepers and Associations members are encouraged to attend the
ceremony/parade with their families, spouse and friends
